The Refinery Open Bible Church – Reaching the Least, the Lost, and the Last

The Refinery Open Bible Church in Eden, Wisconsin, officially launched on Saturday, November 7, 2020. Pastors Joshua and Lindsey Ramirez, newly credentialed ministers with Open Bible, are leading the planting team.

Just six weeks after the launch the church already averaged around sixty people per service even amid COVID-19 and the hunting season. In this part of Wisconsin, half the state actually functions on a different schedule during hunting season. In fact, Pastor Josh said the church has had hunters pop into service right out of the woods, dressed in blaze orange!

The Ramirezes, who have served as associate pastors and lead pastors in another denomination, first felt called to plant a church about a year ago. With a heart for the greater Fond du Lac area, The Refinery is currently meeting above the Blue Door Coffee Company, a coffee shop in nearby Campbellsport. Fond Du Lac, which offers a healthy economy, affordable homes, and a high quality of life, came in at number 32 in Money magazine’s list of 100 Best Places to Live in 2017. (Eden is located on the outskirts of Fond du Lac.)

The Refinery reflects a good combination of the disenfranchised, unchurched, and mature Christians. Pastors Josh and Lindsey, equal partners in this endeavor, are intent on restoring the Church body. Through community outreach and networking, Josh and Lindsey are already well connected in the community and have received amazing community support. Joshua has served as a law enforcement chaplain for the Fond Du Lac County Sherriff’s office for nearly six years.

Nearly 70 people attended The Refinery Christmas Dinner held December 12. Approximately sixty to seventy percent of those in attendance were regular church attendees while the rest were invited guests.

Josh says he has seen a “real sense of community being built.” When asked what he would tell anyone who is considering planting a church, he replied, “Pray, prepare, and plan, but be flexible!”
