Joaquin Ramos, National Director of Hispanic Ministries for Open Bible from 2001 to 2015, passed away August 29, 2021, at age 69. Credentialed with Open Bible for 31 years, Joaquin had a heart for Hispanic Ministries and church planting. His vision was to be a church multiplication movement that would cover the whole United States. Joaquin was a strong supporter of Inste Global Bible College (IGBC) as a means to help discover and develop local church leaders.
Joaquin was instrumental in developing and networking with Hispanic congregations in the Pacific Region of Open Bible Churches. Above all, Joaquin’s passion was to see men and women embrace the call of God in their lives and help them fulfill it for the glory of God. In reflecting on Joaquin’s leadership influence, Pacific Region Executive Director Chris Hansler stated, “Joaquin had a love for Jesus that compelled him in the way he loved people, in the way he preached with passion, and in the way he invested in the multiplication of churches. He had a kind heart and a fire for the gospel.”
From 1991-2015 Joaquin served as the Pacific Regional Coordinator for Hispanic Ministries. He planted and pastored Iglesia La Roca in Tacoma, Washington, from 1988 to 2000. After that he helped restart Olympia Open Bible Church in Olympia, Washington. He also authored the book Por Segunda Vez (Second Time Around). In 2017 Joaquin became the president of the Northwest Hispanic Evangelical Alliance, a Hispanic organization for pastors in the Seattle area.
Open Bible President Randall A. Bach said, “Joaquin had such a sweet spirit and gentle heart, and that flowed out of a heart of love for God and people. So many of us will miss his humble smile and laugh. Joaquin modeled what a Christian testimony ought to be.”
Joaquin was a loving husband to his wife, Naomi, and father to three children: Esther, Benjamin, and Daniel.
