Five Things I Relearned about Jesus Christ

By Solomon Wyatt

Last year was filled with many hills and valleys that caused us to look at life differently. In the midst of this new normalcy, I was led to evaluate what was valuable and what was not necessary in my life. These moments of extended isolation and reflection brought me to these resolutions, five things I relearned about Jesus Christ.

  1. I STILL NEED JESUS CHRIST
Even though most churches shut down during this tenure, my family and I still went to church most Sundays. Although it was not the same, it was even more necessary to see that we need a Savior that can do and fix what we cannot (John 8:12).
  1. JESUS CHRIST IS A PROTECTOR.
I know I am not the only one with this experience, but Jesus Christ really kept me in this last season. We had eye-opening moments around health, racism, and economic uncertainty, to name a few. Referring to Jesus Christ, I can say like the saints of old, “He’s A Keeper!” And Jesus reminded me that He is able to keep me (Jude 1:24-25).
  1. JESUS CHRIST IS MY SOURCE.
I give glory and honor to Christ for needing Him and His protection, but I was shocked at the ways He showed me that He was my Source last year. Although I had more time off essentially due to layoffs, I brought in more income than I did in the previous year. I was also able to pay off multiple bills and receive some support our family didn’t expect to receive. These small examples all point back to Jesus being our never-ending source (Philippians 4:19).
  1. JESUS CHRIST HAS MY BEST INTERESTS IN MIND.
In a season of stress and frustration, Jesus Christ also supplied me with a ton of peace. We often tend to think God is punishing us when His goal is to increase us. It was important to relearn that Jesus Christ’s intentions are always good and just (Ephesians 2:14).
  1. I NEED TO SHARE THIS LOVE, GRACE, AND TRUTH.
My job did not shut down, and I believe Christ placed me in that job to reflect His light. If world issues, relationship troubles, international health crises, political unrest, exposure of racism/bad policing, and financial instability don’t lead you to the Lord, then clearly the devil is deceiving you. We ALL need Jesus Christ now more than ever, and it’s my responsibility to extend that love, grace, and truth (John 6:35).
