Derek Sissel has been appointed as the Regional Executive Director (RED) for Open Bible Churches’ Mountain Plains Region, effective January 1, 2023. As part of this appointment, he will also serve as a member of the Open Bible Executive Leadership Team, an advisory and consultative body to the president of Open Bible Churches.
Derek has a vast background in ministry and leadership. In addition to serving as Rocky Mountain District Director for Open Bible’s Mountain Plains Region, he is the lead pastor of Reach Church Network, with Open Bible churches located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Largo, Florida. He has led church revitalization, church planting, youth camps, ministry workshops, training seminars, and conferences.
Open Bible President Randall A. Bach said,
Derek Sissel has demonstrated capable leadership in pastoring one church while simultaneously leading another church back to health. The thought of him additionally assuming the part-time role of regional executive director initially gave many of us pause, not as a reflection on Derek but on the magnitude and number of his responsibilities. However, the people who work the closest with Derek and know him best affirm that God has gifted Derek with organizational and team management abilities that are up to these tasks. We look forward to much fruit from Derek’s service as Mountain Plains Executive Director.”
Derek is driven by three main passions: an authentic love for Jesus Christ, a deep conviction to raise and release the next generation of leaders, and a heartbeat to plant and revitalize life-giving churches to fulfill the Great Commission.
“Angie and I are humbled by the support and excitement we have received from so many of our fellow ministers in the Mountain Plains Region and Open Bible,” Derek said. “We are thankful for Bill and Wanda, who served our churches and our ministers with love and faithfulness. Without them there would be a void of Christ’s love in so many lives. We are not at a new beginning; rather, we are building upon a wonderful foundation. May God grant us grace as we pursue making more disciples, developing great leaders, and planting new churches in the Mountain Plains Region.”
Derek and his wife, Angie, are the proud parents of three wonderful children: Danielle, Vanessa, and Wade, and the grandparents of three adorable grandchildren: Elijah, Judah, and Bella.
A RED is appointed by the president in consultation with the regional board of directors, approved by the national board of directors, and ratified by regional ministers. Derek succeeds Bill Jimenez, who faithfully served in this position for eight years.
